What is QiGong?

Qigong means “cultivating energy”. It is a system that is over 5,000 years old and is still practiced today for health maintenance, healing and for increasing vivacity. Qigong is a healing modality that combines slow, graceful movements with mental concentration and breathing to help balance and increase one’s vital energies. It is classified as spiritual, martial or medical. Depending upon its application, some practices increase the Qi, others circulate it, use it to cleanse and heal the body, store it, or emit Qi to help heal others.

What are the benefits of Qigong?

The health benefits that come from the continuous practice of the art are numerous. Qigong provides stress reduction, prevention and curing of diseases, strengthening of the physical body and the prolongation of life itself. It has also been found to enhance immune, cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions.

Not any less important is the impact Qigong has on the spiritual and mental health of those who practice it.

Can anyone do Qigong?

Qigong can be adapted for any age and any physical condition.

It can be done lying down, sitting in a chair, standing or walking.

The rewards of Qigong are so vast, that not only can everyone

do it to some degree, but everyone can benefit from it!

How does Qigong fit in with Acupuncture?

Many acupuncturists perform medical Qigong on their patients,

and recommend Qigong exercises as an important addition to

their continued care.

I am a certified medical Qigong practitioner. I finish nearly every

treatment with some form of Qigong. I often send my patients

home with some simple Qigong movements to help them continue

to progress towards better health.

I also teach beginning Qigong classes. Normally an 8 week course, the

student is introduced to the basics of Qigong and taught several

forms and techniques that they can do on their own.
